Founded and led by Nilasha - a designer with a rich global perspective - the studio blends diverse cultural influences with a keen sensitivity to context, resulting in spaces that are timeless and deeply personal.
Every project is approached as a journey, an exploration of identity, purpose, and emotion. Whether designing a sprawling villa or a custom piece of furniture, the focus is always on authenticity. Nilasha: Founder & Principal Architect
Nilasha’s design philosophy is deeply shaped by her multicultural journey. Born in Manchester, New Hampshire, she has lived in New York, Bombay, Florence, and Hyderabad—each city enriching her perspective with diverse cultural influences and a refined appreciation for context.
Her passion for design was sparked early, inspired by travel and nurtured through museum and gallery visits, along with exposure to varied cultural environments. She earned a Bachelor of Architecture Degree from Pratt Institute, New York, followed by dual MFAs in Interior and Furniture Design in Florence.
Having spent a significant part of her life in New York, Nilasha drew inspiration from the city’s vibrant energy and rich tapestry of cultures. After graduating from Pratt Institute, she began her career as a project manager at a leading retail architecture firm, where handling large-scale developments sharpened her technical expertise. Yet, as she worked on sprawling projects, she found herself increasingly drawn to the intimate scale of interiors and furniture design. Later, immersed in Italy’s rich design heritage and artisanal craftsmanship during her time in Florence, Nilasha experienced a transformative deepening of her creative sensibility.
Nilasha’s multidisciplinary expertise enables her to create cohesive, layered environments that prioritize authenticity over trends and craftsmanship over fleeting styles. She sees her role not only as a designer but also as a facilitator, shaping environments that genuinely reflect the personalities, stories, and aspirations of those who inhabit them.
A temporary return to Hyderabad in 2019 turned into an unexpected homecoming. Initial commissions for a restaurant and a residential project led to further opportunities, and in 2020, she laid the foundation for Studio Nilasha. Today, the practice is recognized for its commitment to authenticity, craftsmanship, and timelessness.
Through the studio, Nilasha continues to craft spaces that are not only beautiful but meaningful—spaces that invite connection, support purpose, and leave a lasting emotional impression.
